During COVID, leaders need to cut through the noise and engage with staff and stakeholders in a meaningful way. But some of us don’t know how to tell great stories - or we're afraid to. As a result, our most important messages are never heard.
As an award-winning journalist, Jehan Casinader tells compelling stories that engage Kiwis’ hearts and minds. In this session, he’ll teach us to do the same.
Jehan will focus on how chief executives can use the power of storytelling to deliver engaging pre-election reports, while also supporting their Councils in an increasingly complex, uncertain environment.

Lance Burdett
Lance Burdett will join us to talk about why it is that so many people are feeling overwhelmed and moody, neuroscience explains this phenomenon. He will show us how to bring certainty into our uncertain world, how to significantly reduce worry, and the importance taking practical action. Additionally, he will show us how to remain motivated and energised, how to respond to urgent challenges, how to switch off at the end of a busy day, and how to get to sleep within just a few breaths. Plus, much more.

Following a successful career in construction, Lance Burdett spent 22 years as a cop, becoming the lead crisis negotiator. He trained in New Zealand, Australia, England and the USA with the elite units of police, prisons, emergency services, the military, and the FBI. Lance has an MA majoring in Terrorism, Safety & Security, a Diploma in Policing, a Diploma in Business Studies, and is completing a Diploma in Positive Psychology and Wellbeing. He published the bestselling books – Behind The Tape and Dark Side of the Brain – and is writing a third book on anxiety. He also makes regular media appearances.
I arrived at a session with Lance Burdett at the 45 South Retreat in Wanaka late, due to the need to pack up my drums from the previous evening’s entertainment. I entered the room to see the retreat participants all looking attentively at Lance. The were no signs of any of the audience passing the time by casually looking at a smartphone. Lance was animated, passionate and keen to engage. He was not hog-tied to a power point and gave valuable insights to the audience on the need for proper sleep and how that can be attained. Suffice to say, I wish I arrived on time!
