It is a double celebration for Kaipara District Council today with the announcement that two local government leaders will head overseas for professional development opportunities, presented at a Gala Dinner event in Wellington.

Chief Executive, Louise Miller, was awarded the AskYourTeam Melbourne Business School Leadership Scholarship, and General Manager, Jason Marris, will head to the United States on the Civic Financial Services Overseas Manager Exchange. Both were awarded by Taituarā — Local Government Professionals Aotearoa at a Gala Dinner in Wellington.

The AskYourTeam Melbourne Business School Leadership Scholarship will provide Louise with the opportunity to undertake a senior leadership programme at the prestigious Melbourne Business School.

The judges said that Louise clearly exemplifies what it means to be a local government leader with strong experience and authenticity.

The Civic Financial Services Overseas Manager Exchange will see Jason travel to the United States (pending travel restrictions) to partner with a manager from a US council. It is an opportunity to focus on management development, and to share experiences and challenges.

The judges said that Jason clearly articulated and demonstrated how he would be an ambassador for his Council, region, and Aotearoa New Zealand. He was clear on the reciprocal nature of the Overseas Exchange, with specific examples of how he would undertake the cultural exchange element in particular.

Both Louise and Jason are active Taituarā members – Louise chairs the Workforce Committee and has contributed to various forums and panels, and Jason is on the Executive Committee.

Taituarā Chief Executive, Karen Thomas, congratulated Louise and Jason, both who have considerable experience in local government.

“I am thrilled for Louise and Jason. They will be fantastic ambassadors for their Council and Aotearoa New Zealand and will continue to grow as leaders.

“Thank you to AskYourTeam and Civic Financial Services for supporting local government professional development.”
