The building boom over the last few years, as well as post-COVID supply chain constraints, have seen building supplies availability and prices approach a crisis point. The Commerce Commission has released a report on the issue and is seeking feedback on possible actions to address this.

The Commerce Commission are currently consulting on their draft report Residential Building Supplies Market Study.

Some recommendations, such as a centralised register for national building products, echo calls from the local government sector.

An overview of the market study into residential building supplies is available of the Commerce Commission website as well as a YouTube media briefing.

The Commerce Commission is seeking feedback by 4pm, Thursday 1 September 2022.

The Taituarā submission can be found on this page.
