Category: Te Tohu Waka Hourua - The Buddle Findlay Award for Māori-Council Partnerships

Te Whāriki is Greater Wellington Regional Council's organisational approach to improving outcomes for mana whenua and Māori across the region. It is an ambitious framework which is designed to create a genuine partnership with the six mana whenua partners of the region and increase organisational ability to operate in true partnership.

Te Whāriki is based on four key areas (pou):

  • Strong prosperous Māori communities,
  • Effective partnering,
  • Engagement for equitable outcomes,
  • A capable workforce.

These areas created the foundation for the organisation to focus in on across all business activities including business planning, training and development and funding arrangements.

Although Te Whāriki is continually evolving and adapting to the challenge it has already changed the way that Greater Wellington is operating both internally and externally with Māori.
