About this event

The Future for Local Government Panel’s Draft report He mata whāriki, he matawhānui (28 October 2022) was a provocation to reimagine the future of local governance. Alongside draft recommendations it asks several questions about the future local governance system that members need to consider and provide feedback on between now and February 2023.

We need creative and courageous local government professionals to attend our regional hui to help Taituarā design this future and our feedback to the Panel. We will run this hui in five locations in February:

Rather than cover all aspects of the report, we will focus these events on key questions about

  • improving the central/local government partnership (including developing and delivering an agreed strategic wellbeing plan; aligned public service/workforce)
  • future functions and structure (including opportunities for collaboration)
  • funding (with a focus on co-investment in community wellbeing)
  • stewardship of the system.

Who should attend?

This is a free hui and is open to staff of any council, or council-controlled organisation (CCO) in New Zealand.

We encourage you to register for this event and participate in this important discussion. A working lunch will be provided.
