What does this event cover

The Transport and Infrastructure Select Committee has reported back, and the Building and Construction (Small Stand-alone Dwellings) Amendment Bill awaits its second reading. This Bill enables small, up to 70m2 dwellings (commonly called ‘granny flats’), to be constructed without building consent if certain conditions are met.

Join Hamish Harwood and Kierra Parker from Simpson Grierson to unpack the Bill to help understand the implications for local government and what exactly local government’s role is. Sally Grey, Manager Premium Building Consents, Auckland Council, and Steve Pearce, Building Services Manager, Tauranga City Council, will share what they are doing to prepare for the new legislation. The legislation curtails the council’s role in relation to this type of building, compared to the usual consenting role. Sally and Steve will speak to the importance of knowing what a council’s obligations are limited to for this regime.
