Last week, a range of council officers and elected officials met with Pacific Islands local government officers and elected officials taking a study tour of Aotearoa New Zealand.

This study tour is part of the PacificTA programme which is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The representatives who visited Ōtautahi Christchurch included officials from Suva City Council and Honiara City Council as well as the Lord Mayor of Honiara City Council, Eddi Siapu and elected Councillor Wilson Mamae.

The study tour looked at urban planning, crime prevention, recreational activity, asset management, planning and decision-making, and financial management amongst other topics.

PacificTA (or Local Government Technical Assistant Facility for Pacific Countries) helps local Pacific Island managers to run public services and is a collaborative programme which benefits both Pacific Island-based and New Zealand-based staff and their communities.
