A team from Otago Regional Council has won the New Zealand leg of the JLT Management Challenge and will go on to compete in the Australian final later in the year.

The judges said that the team, In Our Element, demonstrated all the characteristics of a highly effective team – interacting well, demonstrating collaboration and inclusion. They were supportive, had great energy, and had fun. They achieved consistent performance, achieving high scores across all challenge tasks.

The JLT Australasian Management Challenge is Australasia’s premier forum for current and emerging local government leaders. The Challenge is designed to enhance leadership and management skills of local government professionals through team-based learning and development. The teams undertake hands-on and real-life activities designed to test their management skills as a group and as individuals.

The winning team goes on to represent New Zealand at the Australian finals, competing against seven states and territories.

Taituarā Chief Executive, Karen Thomas, congratulated In Our Element who competed against 14 teams from around the country for a spot in the final.

“Last year’s Management Challenge was held online, so it is fantastic to have all the teams together this year in Lower Hutt.

“Congratulations to the Otago Regional Council team and good luck for the finals.”
