Parliament's Environment Committee has opened consultation on the first two of three resource management bills. With submissions closing on 30 January 2023, we are keen to support councils to have their say despite the short turnaround.

The first two bills which will repeal and replace the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) are the Natural and Built Environment Bill (NBE Bill) and the Spatial Planning Bill (SPA).

Our overview

Taituarā has provided an overview of what the Bills contain here.

Taituarā submission

We are working with the Taituarā Resource Management Reference Group to develop our submission which we hope to share with you soon, both to receive feedback and support your council in writing your own submission.

Consultation extension

In collaboration with LGNZ, we have requested an extension of the submission deadline from both Minister Parker and Eugenie Sage who is chairing the Environment Committee.

Webinar

We are working with Simpson Grierson to provide analysis of the Bills to the sector. Matt Conway, Partner at Simpson Grierson, will be hosting a webinar titled 'Getting ready for RM Reform' to provide an overview and review of the Bills on 9 December 2022.

We have also requested legal advice on several key issues which we will be circulating with the sector in December.
