What does this event cover
The new system aims to provide more certainty for all users of the system about how Māori interests and Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) are provided for. The changes aim to provide for Māori interests higher up in the system and to ensure existing Treaty settlements arrangements are upheld.
The Planning Act and Natural Environment Act place an obligation on decision makers to give equivalent effect to existing Treaty settlement redress when making decisions under the Acts and a separate obligation on the Crown to seek to reach agreement with post-settlement governance entities on how their redress will be upheld in the new planning system.
Join MCERT officials for a webinar that provides you with an overview of these obligations, including practical guidance to assist decision makers under the Acts.
A Q&A session will offer the opportunity to ask your questions.
This webinar is one of a series that MCERT is supporting.
