Whangārei District Council wins Capability Group Award for Excellence in Organisation and People Development
WhangÄrei District Council's organisational strategy has been awarded the Capability Group Award for Excellence in Organisation and People Development as part of the 2021 LGFA Taituarā Local Government Excellence Awards, presented at the annual Gala Dinner in Wellington.
The project is a ground-up development to build a more inclusive, cohesive and effective organisation, and is innovative in that it has been driven by second and third tier managers from across the organisation.
The judges said that Whangāei had succeeded in embedding the strategy into its day-to-day operations and generated buy-in at a managerial level. Cross-departmental whānau groups are still in place ensuring the longevity of the strategy.
Taituarā Chief Executive, Karen Thomas, congratulated Whangārei District Council on their approach to building an exceptional organisational culture. She also thanked Capability Group for their support.
