SmartView is a tool that puts data about your city in one place. It is an interactive web-app that displays over 70 datasets specific to Christchurch City. It’s the first step into creating a consistent, city-wide, data experience that will help make Christchurch New Zealand’s most connected community.
Developed internally in 2017, SmartView pulls together data from a range of public and private organisations and feeds it into the web-app which displays its cities data in a useful and accessible way. It has been designed with the user experience in mind and offers features and tools to make the web-app functional for everyday use.
At the end of 2023, SmartView released its biggest upgrade to date. A co-design process with local innovators informed a new redesign of its interface and data structure to help modernise and improve the usability of the web-app. SmartView offers city-related datasets in categories for recreation, travel, environment, news, city information, and incidents and issues. Some of the most popular datasets include the current park assets, free WiFi areas, locations of public toilets, cycle routes, and the locations of publicly accessible fruit trees to forage.
