A tour of Auckland to compliment our Annual Summit.

About this event

Due to the lack of registrations for the tour, this optional extra will not be going ahead. To register as a delegate for the Summit please visit our Summit website here.

Gael Surgenor, Director of Community & Social Innovation of the Southern Initiative, will be the MC for this optional extra in our Summit programme. The tour will leave from the main entrance of the Summit venue, The Langham at 1pm and will stop at:

  • Te Oro music and arts centre in Glen Innes featuring award winning architecture. This is a multi-purpose space for youth and local community to perform, practice and learn the arts, and celebrate their cultures.
  • Toia pool and leisure facility, Otahuhu. This is a new facility with swimmers entering the leisure centre via the library, increasing exposure to books and library services.
  • Weymouth housing development. This is a mixed housing development undertaken in partnership with iwi which is nearing final stages of completion.
  • The MIT Manukau and Transport Interchange - this comprises a project which fully integrates three essential operational elements; a teaching/learning facility for MIT and a new Auckland Transport railway station and bus interchange. This combination of education and transportation facilities is unique within New Zealand and represents a major opportunity for increasing participation in tertiary education.

At the end of the tour the bus will deliver those who are flying out on Friday (23 September) to the airport by about 5.15pm but traffic can be unpredictable so please allow extra time. All others on the tour will be dropped back at The Langham by about 6.15pm.

A packed lunch will be provided.

Please note that Summit delegates wishing to come on this tour must register here for this tour by 5pm, Friday 16 September. Note that we will need to have a minimum of 20 delegates register for the tour to make it viable. If we do not achieve that number we will advise everyone on Monday, 19 September.

This is not a registration for the Summit. To register as a delegate for the Summit please visit our Summit website here.
