Selwyn District Council’s customer service transformation project has been awarded the Datacom Award for Transforming Service Delivery as part of the 2021 LGFA Taituarā Local Government Excellence Awards, presented at a Gala Dinner event in Wellington tonight.

The project, A World Class Customer Experience Transformation Project, included the construction of a new customer service centre, a new customer culture approach, and skills enhancement of the customer service staff.

The judges commended the Council’s compelling blend of digital transformation, culture change and skills development. All this was achieved within six months, with improved efficiency and customer service targets in the first year.

Taituarā Chief Executive, Karen Thomas, congratulated Selwyn District Council and said that this year’s Gala Dinner was extra special after last year’s event was cancelled due to COVID-19.

“The last year was challenging for the local government sector, and there are plenty of challenges ahead.

“It was wonderful to gather to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible mahi in the sector.

“Congratulations to Selwyn on achieving great results through a blended digital transformation approach. And thank you to Datacom for their support.”

The judges also commended Tauranga City Council in this category for their Trail rider initiative – an all-terrain wheelchair providing an opportunity for those with mobility needs to access previously inaccessible sites, heights and views.

Seven category winners of the 2021 LGFA Taituarā Local Government Excellence Awards, plus a Supreme Award were announced, along with an award for an emerging leader, overseas manager exchanges, and a leadership scholarship. Also announced was the winning team of the New Zealand leg of the Australasian Management Challenge.
