We are seeking enthusiastic people to join the Workforce Reference Group. The Workforce Reference Group supports the Taituarā vision and objectives through understanding and proactively responding to workforce opportunities and challenges of the sector, in order to enable council organisations to successfully fulfil their purpose of enabling democratic decision-making and promoting community wellbeing.

If you are passionate about contributing to building a resilient local government workforce and improving our reputation as a desirable place to work and build a career, then have a look at what the Workforce Reference Group does and what the expectations of reference group members are.

Skills and experience in workforce planning and development across domains of recruitment and retention, organisational culture, learning & development, and health, safety & well-being will be ideal – whether you are an HR professional or in management. If you have what it takes, then put yourself forward.

Am I eligible?

Membership of the Taituarā Workforce Reference Group is open to any ‘paid-up’ full member of Taituarā. Applications from non-members will be accepted but you’ll need to submit an application for membership of Taituarā with your application to join the Reference Group. Additionally, the applicant’s employing council must be paid up with its Taituarā SectorGoodToolkit levy.

Having a diverse membership on the Reference Group will be a key consideration.

What’s the level of commitment?

Applicants must be willing to spend around 10 days per year on Workforce Reference Group projects and must have the support of their council to do so. Reference Group meetings will generally be held once per quarter, though may be held more regularly if needed. Meetings will be notified well in advance.

Meetings will be in-person with the option to connect online. Taituarā considers that there is a degree of benefit to the individual and their council from attending meetings, and therefore expects members’ councils to meet the costs of travel to any in-person meetings.

What’s in it for me?

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who wants to broaden their local government experience, learn from others, and make a difference.
