The Taituarā Democracy and Participation Reference Group (DPRG) is seeking nominations for a new Chair to replace David Ward who is stepping down after leading the DPRG for the last few years. The role of the Chair is a vital one for the group and provides a great opportunity to provide sector leadership across an important workstream.

In addition to spending around 10 days per year on associated DPRG work (including forums) and four meetings a year, the Chair may also be required to provide support to sector initiatives, submissions, and oversight. If you have great facilitation, leadership, and negotiation skills and an interest in democracy, governance and participation then we want to hear from you.

Am I eligible?

Membership of the Taituarā DPRG is open to any ‘paid-up’ full member of Taituarā. Applications from non-members will be accepted, if and only if the applicant submits an application for membership with their application to join the DPRG.

Additionally, the applicant’s employing council must be paid up with its Taituarā LGSectorGoodToolkit levies.

We strive to attract people with skills and knowledge who will contribute to the achievement of the DPRG objectives. We also aim to maintain a balance of members from across the range of local authority sizes and types on our reference groups. Geographical spread can also be a consideration.

How do I apply?

To apply please send us a statement setting out the skills and experience that you feel is relevant to the role on the DPRG (this could be a CV or something shorter if you wish) and that sets out why you would like to be considered for the vacancy. You will also need to attach a letter or other communication from your Chief Executive (if appropriate) in support of your application and that indicates they understand the time commitment.

The DPRG terms of reference can be found here.

Expressions of interest can be emailed to Seán Mahoney by 5pm on 9 June 2023. Appointments will be made by the Taituara Executive.

Ngā mihi,
Seán
