Tasman District Council have introduced a bold Walking and Cycling Strategy to deliver a network of safe urban routes that enable people to walk and cycle as part of their everyday activities. We aim to double walking and cycling rates by 2030 and triple them by 2050.

The Strategy outlines targets and actions that significantly lift the amount of walking, cycling and micro-mobility undertaken in Tasman's urban areas. The Strategy has a number of actions that have the potential to achieve:

  •  reduced carbon emissions;
  •  improved walking and cycling network;
  •  healthy and safer communities; and
  •  vibrant urban environments.

The adoption of the Strategy has resulted in the Council securing Waka Kotahi funding to deliver a range of active transport projects within two years of that adoption.
