A record of 54 entries have been received in the 2024 LGFA Taituarā Local Government Excellence Awards®. The previous record was 45 in the 2018 competition.
This year’s entrants include 27 local authorities, two council-controlled organisations and, for the first time, a co-governance entity.

The DIA Award for Excellence in Community Engagement recognises projects that demonstrate excellence community engagement, empowerment, or partnerships.
The Datacom Award for Excellence in Digital Government is for projects that have achieved successful results from the application of digital or technological solutions.
The BERL Award for Excellence in Collaborating for Results recognises projects that demonstrate collaboration with other agencies.
The Buddle Findlay Award for Excellence Māori-Council Partnerships (Te Tohu Waka Hourua) is for projects that demonstrate commitment to partnering with Māori, and the results achieved from that.
The GHD Award for Excellence in Environmental Leadership is about projects that demonstrate environmental benefits that impact communities.
The Beca Award for Excellence in Placemaking is for projects that shape or create a vibrant local economy, local culture, or promote positive social outcomes.
The Award for Excellence in Organisation and People Development is for projects that show exceptional organisational culture. This could be organisational redesign, human resource management, or leadership development.
